VIP & protocol transport in Reunion Island: dedicated driver

Welcoming a visiting minister, driving a prefect between two official engagements, escorting a CAC 40 executive coming to open a subsidiary: VIP transport in Reunion Island tolerates nothing approximate. The stakes combine absolute punctuality, discretion, deep island knowledge (secondary routes, fallback points, official accesses) and impeccable presentation. It is a craft of its own within professional VTC offering.

This guide is written for institutional cabinets, chiefs of protocol, high-end event agencies, executives and mission coordinators orchestrating dignitary welcomes on the island, whether they land at Roland Garros or Pierrefonds, whether they stay in Saint-Denis or Saint-Gilles.

Defining VIP & protocol transport

VIP transport differs from standard VTC on four critical dimensions.

Absolute punctuality. No "5-minute leeway". For a prefect, minister or CEO, the vehicle is on-site 10 to 15 minutes before the agreed time, engine running if rain or extreme heat.

Discretion. The driver asks no questions, comments on no conversations, shares nothing externally. Client briefing always upfront, NDA possible for sensitive missions.

Deep terrain knowledge. Alternative routes when there''s a demonstration in Saint-Denis, discreet drop-off points at the prefecture, official airport accesses, Saturday Saint-Pierre market bypass. Our dispatch feeds drivers real-time traffic and event info.

Presentation. Dark suit, vehicle washed the night before, leather interior checked, water bottles present, AC ready. No music, no air freshener.

It is the opposite of "functional" VTC: it is a welcoming service, not a point A to point B transfer.

How Zoot organises a VIP mission

A VIP mission follows a 4-step workflow on the Zoot side.

Step 1: Brief. You send by email to direction@zoot.re the mission profile: VIP involved (title, name if authorised), date, waypoints, specific requirements (still vs sparkling water, preferred newspaper, level of discretion). We confirm within 2 working hours.

Step 2: Allocation. A senior driver from the VIP pool is assigned. Profile validated beyond VTC standard: clean record, sensitive-mission experience, professional suit, professional English depending on mission.

Step 3: Preparation. The driver receives a mission file 24-48 h in advance: main and alternative routes, precise timing with buffer, emergency contacts, fallback points. They do a recce if the mission involves an unusual location (private residence, industrial site).

Step 4: Execution. On the day, real-time tracking by the corporate account admin. Vehicle in place 10-15 min early, silent pickup, smooth driving, precise drop-off. Mission report sent post-mission if requested.

Premium vehicles and dedicated drivers

For VIP missions, the vehicle pool is restricted and selected.

  • High-end sedan: Mercedes E-class or equivalent, leather interior, controlled AC, light tinted windows. Standard for most individual missions.
  • Premium SUV: for family missions or 4-person delegations, or trips to the Highlands (Cilaos, Plaine-des-Cafres) where grip matters.
  • Premium van: for 6-8 person delegations (ministerial team, board, senior event team).

VIP pool drivers are Zoot drivers who have passed an internal track: minimum 18 months on the platform, rating > 4.9, ongoing protocol training, regular briefings. Professional English required for international missions (diplomatic visit, foreign executive).

Protocol briefing and confidentiality

For high-stakes missions (ministerial visit, CAC 40 executive, media figure), Zoot can sign a confidentiality engagement specific to the mission. Standardised on the usual French template, signed by the driver and the Zoot mission admin.

The protocol briefing covers:

  • door opening / closing per practice
  • positioning in rear-right (protocol seat) or front depending on request
  • luggage handling with attendant
  • silence absent direct address by the VIP
  • call handling (muted, no in-car Bluetooth hands-free)
  • route and timing communicated to VIP only if requested

For long-duration vehicles (full day, multi-day), a single Zoot point of contact remains reachable 24/7 throughout the mission.

Pricing: single ride, hourly hire, multi-day mission

Three formulas for VIP transport.

Single ride: point-to-point trip. From EUR 25 for short urban rides (Saint-Denis), EUR 45-95 for inter-city, depending on distance. For Roland Garros, see our employee airport shuttle, the VIP option layers on top.

Hourly hire: vehicle + driver reserved over a time slot. From EUR 41/hour, minimum 3 h. Ideal for tight agendas with multiple appointments (institutional morning, seminar day).

Multi-day mission: custom quote for 2-5 day visits. Includes dedicated vehicle, dedicated driver, full mission file, 24/7 dispatch tracking. Minimum commitment 8 h/day. Contact: direction@zoot.re.

All pricing integrates with the Zoot corporate account (see business VTC & corporate account) with centralised invoicing and net-30 payment.

Use cases: official visit, executive, diplomatic event

Ministerial visit. A minister arrives from Paris for a one-day inauguration in Saint-Pierre. Programme: arrival Roland Garros 8 AM, Southern trip, two inaugurations, lunch, return to Saint-Denis for press conference, evening at the prefecture. Full-day mission, two relay drivers, prefectural briefing upfront.

Executive on subsidiary visit. CEO of a mainland group spending 48 h visiting three sites in Saint-Denis, Le Port and Saint-Pierre. Day + day hourly hire, dedicated vehicle, route file fed by the local GM.

Diplomat or foreign delegation. Mauritian or South African economic delegation, 3-day official visit. Premium 6-seat van, bilingual driver, upfront briefing with the chamber of commerce.

Corporate wedding or VIP event. Executive wedding in Saint-Gilles or Les Salines, 30 VIP guests arriving Roland Garros and western hotels. Coordinated fleet, synchronised shuttle, real-time dashboard for the wedding planner. For this type of mission, see also pro event transport.

Premium business travel. Senior executive on a 5-day strategic mission, confidential agenda. See business travel Reunion for the general framework; the VIP option layers on for sensitive profiles.

VIP transport Reunion FAQ

What is the minimum lead time for a VIP mission?

48 working hours ideally. For emergencies (< 24 h), we do our best subject to VIP pool availability. Beyond a week''s notice, you have full choice of the driver pool.

Does the driver sign an NDA?

Yes, on request. Our VIP pool drivers are briefed on confidentiality by default, but for high-stakes missions, we formalise via a co-signed written engagement.

Do your vehicles have discreet plates?

VIP pool vehicles are recent, without visible Zoot external branding, premium interior. Light tinted windows (compliant with road code).

Does the driver speak English?

Yes, VIP pool drivers assigned to international missions have professional English. For specific multilingual missions (Mandarin, German), specify at request, we check availability.

Can I have the same driver across several days?

Yes, it is even recommended for multi-day missions. It allows continuity of VIP and file knowledge. Driver retention activates on mission request.

What happens in case of incident (breakdown, accident)?

The VIP pool is doubled: a backup driver can be mobilised within 15 minutes in urban areas, 30 minutes in remote areas. This redundancy is part of the service and does not incur surcharge.
